Projeto Hospitais Saudáveis (PHS), GGHH and HCWH partner in Brazil, has officially launched their new Guide for Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Health Organizations. Based on a tool of the Brazilian Greenhouse Gas Program, this new resource will assist the health sector in understanding, tracking, and addressing emissions from their facilities. PHS convened a workshop on April 28th for members of the health sector to learn about the new guide and hear from experts and colleagues on climate change and health and best practices for health care facilities. For more information on the event, click here.

The release of the guide represents an important step for the health sector in Brazil to develop a low carbon path for the future. We look forward to welcoming many of these hospitals to the 2020 Health Care Climate Challenge in the coming months.

About the 2020 Challenge

Organized by GGHH, the 2020 Health Care Climate Challenge is an initiative to mobilize health care around the world to protect public health from climate change.

The Challenge is based on three pillars:

  • Mitigation – Reducing health care’s own carbon footprint.
  • Resilience – Preparing for the impacts of extreme weather and the shifting burden of disease.
  • Leadership – Educating staff and the public while promoting policies to protect public health from climate change.
