On the 29th of November 2018, the Bertha Gxowa Hospital Environmental Health Division, a GGHH member in South Africa, received a Khanyisa Service Excellence award for their quality improvement project that focuses on health care waste minimization and recycling. Through the project, the hospital is committed to protect the public health of their community by reducing the volume and toxicity of waste produced by the facility, while implementing the most environmentally sound waste management and disposal options such as recycling and proper health care waste segregation at generation point.

As a member of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals network, Bertha Gxowa Hospital has pledged to reduce their environmental footprint by reducing the amount of waste that they generate at their facility, to procure environmentally friendly chemicals, and to recycle as much waste as possible generated by their operations.

Congratulations to Bertha Gxowa Hospital for receiving this recognition and for their dedication to sustainable health care to protect people and the planet.
