Global Green and Healthy Hospitals founding member the Australian Hospitals and Healthcare Association (AHHA), is organizing a Policy Think Tank – the Greening the Health Sector forum – as part of its regular schedule of events.

This event will feature the Australian launch of the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals. At the same time, this Think Tank will kick-start an important conversation about how hospitals and healthcare providers can reduce their own carbon footprints, and in doing so how the Australian health system can be strengthened through the promotion of greater sustainability and environmental health.

It is increasingly recognized that hospitals and healthcare have a significant impact on environmental health. This forum will kickstart the conversation about how the Australian health system can be strengthened through the promotion of greater sustainability and environmental protection, with the beneficiaries being improved environmental and population health, better bottom lines and improved staff morale.

Dr Peter Orris, Senior Advisor to Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), will be coming out from Chicago; we will also have Dr Kate Charlesworth, newly returned to Australia after working in the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS); and CAHA expert advisory committee member Professor Tony Capon from the University of Canberra.

Save the Date! Make sure you put the date in your diary to come and participate in this important discussion on how the health care sector can play a leadership role in supporting Australia’s low carbon transition and reducing the sector’s environmental footprint.
